The Path to Peace
It's true that the USA has formed a global empire. In the wake of two world wars we secured a leading economic position and our defense apparatus has gone nearly unchecked since the eighties.
It is not realistic to imagine any nation dismantling such elaborate and expensive defenses. Neither is it wise to encourage the continued aggressions of a nation that is dependent on international racketeering.
If we dismantle the war machine our currency will become worthless and every USA citizen and resident will suffer not only joblessness, but brutal poverty. We depend on the artificial demand for dollars.
If we continue fancying ourselves as honored members of the mafia that we contribute to the eventual result will be a bitter realization that the guns have turned against us. When there are no more easy wars to fight or when there is not enough left to steal then we will be exploited as so many others were. By then the USA will resemble Moldova and Liberia. The lions share of wealth is already highly concentrated, but Americans can be relieved that there isn't an economic incentive to relocate and retool the military yet. Foreigners will continue to suffer, but we may have a lifetime of prosperity ahead of us still.
It's a raw deal and it will be a cold hearted inheritance for the coming generation.
There is a better option. To check and restrain the military, citizens must embed themselves into foreign markets. We should work and study abroad, and we should publicly interject to stop wars and the conditions that give rise to war.
When two people fight, the hero is the man who steps in and physically diffuses the situation before irreparable damage is done. It calls for bravery and integrity but it need not be entirely sacrificial. To stop an international war people will need to create an international scene. I propose that those who have the means should convene upon the theaters of war and party as if this were their last day on earth.
When our people are invested into and profiting from the growing prosperity of foreign lands they will be strongly opposed to war. When our celebrities and youthful adventurers are in harms way fewer triggers will be pulled. The parties themselves will create jobs and opportunities and they will even serve as a neutral meeting space where our would be enemies are exposed as humans with struggles that resemble our own. When every land enjoys great wealth and even power the incentive to exploit the weak will cease to exist because fear and weakness will become legacy superstitions. This is the path to peace.
