Because calculate the real value in US Dollars of a Steemit/busy contribution isn't as simple as it looks when Steem Dollar is far different from $1 and few people has made the mistake to choose 100% Steem Power or conversion instead of choosing the internal market. I've created the following tool in order to help Steem user who want reinvest their rewards to choose between 50%/50% and 100% Steem Power.
See my previous cotribution than explain the problem - How Steem reward is computed ?
The issue
The main problem is how Steemit and Busy display the rewards. In fact, the reward should be displayed in Steem Dollar.
But despite that, when the Steem Dollar is too different from the US Dollar, it can be very difficult to estimate the real value of our reward (and make the best choice between 50/50 and 100% Steem Power).
it's because the Steem Blockchain estimate that the Steem Dollar is always pegged to the US Dollar.
See the Steem FAQ :
What do the dollar amounts for pending payouts represent ?
(...) The blockchain estimates the dollar value of STEEM and STEEM Power based on the 3.5 day average price of STEEM reported by the witnesses. The blockchain assumes Steem Dollars are worth approximately one USD.
In fact, it's very simple to calcultate the real value of a contribution.
Let's take the example where the author's reward would be 10 Steem Dollars (and Steem Power cost $9.63).
50/50 reward :
But if the author choose the "100% Steem Power", all the reward will be converted in Steem Power based on 1 Steem Dollar = 1 US Dollar.
The solution
The following tool can be accessed at the following address.
https://evildido.github.io/ShowMeMySteemReward/index.html
Repo : https://github.com/evildido/ShowMeMySteemReward
The app has been developped in jquery and can be used locally (just open index.html with your web browser).
The Steem Dollars price is retrieved from coinmarketcap.com API (https://api.coinmarketcap.com/v1/ticker/steem-dollars/).
Here an exemple.
