Another city in the U.S. has joined the group of cities where crypto mining has been prohibited.
According to media reports, the city of Salamanca in New York has imposed a moratorium on cryptocurrency mining operations there.
It has been done in a bid to bar the residents from using more power through a unanimous voting in favour of the moratorium at the Common Council of the city of Salamanca.
The council approved Local Law No. 2 for 2018 to establish the moratorium on cryptocurrency mining operations on commercial basis.
However, a public hearing on the local law is scheduled to be held on September 12.
Earlier, some other cities in the U.S. had taken similar steps.
In March, Washington State’s Chelan County initiated an emergency moratorium and asked staff to explore ways to deal with the demand for electricity from cryptocurrency miners.
In the same month, the City Council of Plattsburgh in New York, prohibited mining operations in the city by adopting a local law.
