In the last week since my last update, I've made a number of contributions to the Utopian Help Center project. Featured in this update are three new FAQs, updates to the Contributor Quick Start Guide, updates to the knowledge base articles for About contributing and Managing your Steem wallet, and a few improvements to the README file.
New FAQs
I added three new FAQs, listed below:
How do I report abuse on Utopian?
If another Utopian user is using this platform in an unlawful or illegal manner, harassing others or violating your rights to use the Utopian platform in any way, you can report it on Discord, in the #report-abuse channel.
What types of contributions are allowed on Utopian?
As a general rule, any original work that adds value to an Open Source project can be shared on Utopian.
Utopian does have categories into which one may post and these include the following:
- Suggestions
- Sub-projects
- Development
- Bug Hunting
- Translation
- Graphics
- Analysis
- Visibility
- Documentation
- Tutorials
- Video Tutorials
- Copywriting
This list is not final and more categories may be added as the need arises. If you have a contribution that does not fit into any one of these categories, then feel free to get in touch with Utopian moderators to suggest a category addition.
Why does Utopian have moderators?
In order to ensure a conducive and productive environment for Open Source collaboration, Utopian uses the concept of human moderation to help align the interests of both project owners and contributors. By having manual reviews performed by people who are knowledgeable about a project's vision, Utopian gives chance to high quality contributions that move projects forward.
There are two kinds of moderators active on the Utopian platform: Project Moderators and Utopian Moderators.
Project Moderators
These are moderators who review contributions made to specific Open Source projects only.
Utopian Moderators
These moderators review contributions made to the Utopian.io project itself, and contributions for projects that have no assigned moderators, and they also offer assistance to Utopian users.
Improved "About contributing" text
I edited the content to include project moderators.
- Changed the text from
Utopian works on a proof-of-work basis, on which contributions are accepted if they provide sufficient proof of the work that has been done. This normally means that contributions containing complete work, or a complete milestone of a larger work, will be accepted. Utopian moderators review all contributions to safeguard the platform from spammers and other ill-intentioned individuals.

Project moderators, or Utopian moderators, review all contributions and only accept the contributions that meet their task requests or aim to improve the projects. Added content for "Managing your Steem wallet"
Many reminders are made during the account creation process, but this point cannot be stressed enough: your password/owner key is the only way to exercise ownership over your account and you should never lose it or expose it to unwarranted persons. Therefore, password or cryptographic key protection is the most important aspect of managing a Steem wallet.
Keeping your private keys safe
- Do not store your cryptographic keys in plain text where untrusted people can access them
- If you choose to store your keys on the cloud, consider encrypting the text files first before uploading them
- Be careful not to paste your private keys in your posts by mistake as this will expose them to the whole world
- Have sufficient backups of your private keys (both online and offline)
- Whenever you feel that your keys have been compromised, quickly change your Steem master password, as this will also change all keys associated with your account.
Know your way around
To avoid making mistakes with your Steem wallet, it helps to know your way around the wallet. Knowing how to perform actions in a safe manner will help you avoid costly mistakes. Your Steem wallet contains real and valuable currency and you should take care when using it.
The following tutorials will help you learn how to manage your Steem wallet:
- Changing your master password/owner key
- Powering down your Steem account
- Powering up your Steem account
- Transferring STEEM or SBD to another Steem account
- Exchanging STEEM/SBD on the internal market
