How to extract, create, convert and encrypt archive files using PeaZip free archive manager open-source software.
PeaZip is a free alternative to WinZip, WinRar, and others. Extract files is a task we do very often on our computer. This tutorial can be very useful if you need to use free and open-source software to do that.
Download and install:
Go to: http://www.peazip.org/index.html
Choose your version, download and open the .exe file.
Select Accept and click next. Select Standard installation, choose your language and click next.
Click Next and Install.
Extracting Files:
Right-click with the mouse on file to be extracted. Select PeaZip and 'Extract..'.
Choose your output destination for the file:
Click OK.
Result:
Creating Files:
Right-click with the mouse on file to be created. Select PeaZip and 'Add to archive'
Choose your output destination for the file:
Select the type of archive you want to create, here I'm using '.ZIP'. Click OK.
Result:
Converting Files:
Right-click with the mouse on file to be converted. Select PeaZip and 'Convert'.
Choose your output destination for the file:
Select the type of archive you want to convert to, here I'm using '.TAR'. Click OK.
Result:
Encrypting Files:
Open PeaZip:
Click 'Tools' + 'Create random password/Keyfile' or press 'Ctrl + F9'
Choose how many characters you want in your password:
Click 'Create random password' and Copy the password created
Right-click with the mouse on file to be encrypted:
Select PeaZip and 'Add to archive'
Choose your output destination for the file:
Click on 'Enter password/Keyfile'
Paste the previously created password
Click 'OK'
Result:
Encrypted files are tagged '*' and will ask for password to open it.
