Omni-notes is an open source Android Application for taking notes. You can download it [here](
I am going to site some advantages of this application for others that haven't been using the application, and i site its limitations, which i will be proposing some improvements on.
Superior Advantages of Omni-Notes
I have been enjoying so many features that this application possesses. Such as:
The ability to import Files: Lately the ability of this application to import images, videos and other files have been very useful for me. I don't bother to wait till i copy my notes to word processors before adding images, i easily add images and other files i want straight on this application.
The reminder feature of the application: Sincerely speaking, i have been experiencing some issues with procrastination and laziness. I must say this application has helped me reduce the way i procrastinate my writing task, with the its reminder feature. I use to promise myself to continue my work at a particular time, and maybe when I want to start the task, my initially proposed time must have passed, and i will feel reluctant to begin my work. But with the remainder feature of this application, such cases have reduced, as i can set reminder for the time i want, and the application will remind me.
Limitations of Omni-Notes
Despite its amazing features, there are some limitations this application is having, some of them are:
Save as Option: I have been using this application for my writing tasks for quite some time now, and when i was done with the writing task, and wanted to save the file and transfer it to my computer for final formatting, correction and compilation. I noticed that there was no save as option on this application. The files have been auto-saving, but i don't know the format and the location it has been auto-saving itself.
No Save as
I tried going to the Android location of the application to know if i can see the files.
What i saw, was very strange to me.Word Count: Another limitation i noticed in this application is that it does not have a word counter. I was curious to know how much words i have written, to be sure that i have not exceeded the amount of words that was required of me. I couldn't see or find word counter in this application.
Proposal
Based on the above limitations, i am proposing the following features to this application:
- Adding Save as Option: This option should allow users to select a particular location to save their files, and to choose a file name.
- Embedding Word Counter: A word counter should be included on this application to enable user keep track of the amount of words they have written.
Mockups / Examples
For the Save as Option: Developer can include this option to the application in this way:
For the Word Counter: Developers can include this feature to the application in this way:
Benefits
The benefits of these two proposals are:
- Save as Option: Save as option will be beneficial in the following ways:
- Help users to specify the location they wish to save their work, for easy identification.
- Users can be sure the particular format their work was saved in, for better integration with other devices.
- This feature will improve Omni-Notes application.
- Users can be sure of the exact location their files are saved to
- Word Counter: Word counter feature will be beneficial to this application in the following ways:
- This can help users keep track of the amount of word they have written to their work.
- Users won't need word processors to count the words they have written.
- This feature will improve Omni-Notes application.
