Life is stressful. There’s no denying this. We work long, hard hours. We face long, and stressful commutes and we try our best to be there for our families and friends when they need us. Many of us are constantly on the go and never get much of a break to relax. Even when we finish work or have days off, we often spend time checking work emails and social media feeds. It’s easy to see why we’re more stressed out than previous generations.
Vacations are meant to give us a chance to relax and unwind. Yet, for many of us, they are more stressful than staying at home. We have to save money, book tickets, prepare transport and accommodation, pack in a way that prepares us for everything and organize everyone else in our parties.
Then, when we arrive, we have to worry about everyone having a good time while feeling under pressure to get the perfect photos for our social media feeds. Vacations can be massively stressful. Many of us return home feeling like we need another break.
It doesn’t have to be like this. Vacations should be a chance to rest and unwind. To take a break from our real lives and gain a fresh perspective on our problems. If you struggle to relax on a regular family break, why not try something a little different? Here are some fantastic breaks for when you just need to unwind.
A Yoga Retreat
Going on retreat and taking yoga classes in Chiang Mai is a wonderful way to unwind and work through your stresses. You’ll learn more about yoga, healthy eating, and meditation. You’ll eat better, reconnect with nature, gain a fresh perspective and get a fantastic digital detox. You will meet new people, enjoy your time and take skills back home which help you to unwind when you are stressed.
When you have extended free time, it's a lot easier to meditate. No cell phone buzzing or boss informs you about deadlines. Yoga retreats will detox you digitally and help you unwind and de-stress. While lots of resorts have wifi, you do not feel the need to continuously tweet, text, upgrade facebook or call friends. It feels good to unplug.
Most retreats are all inclusive and you get three healthy and delicious meals each day without the need to find recipes, go grocery shopping, prepare the food, or clean up. Finding the nutrition you need has never been easier. All of the work is done for you.
Winter Sports
Snowboarding in Japan
A winter sports holiday gives you a different way to unwind. Instead of having time to think and clear your head, you’ll spend time putting your stress and negative energies into something physical. Burn your stress off zooming down the mountains and learning a new sport.
Like yoga, winter sports also give you a chance to put your problems and stresses into perspective. Stand on the top of a mountain glancing out at the world in front of you, and you’ll suddenly feel very small.
A Spa Break
If you don’t fancy learning or pushing yourself on your break, but just want to relax, rest and get some much-needed time for yourself then a spa break might be perfect. Spend some time relaxing, getting treatments and looking after your body, allowing you to return to your real life refreshed and ready to take on the world.
Destination spas are the best choice if you're trying to create a major some nutritious changes and require some support. This little group of comprehensive health spas offer good nutrition and exercise with relaxing spa treatment. They range from cheap seasonal programs like New Life Hiking Spa into the legendary Canyon Ranch, with its unparalleled medical and programming staff.

A Cruise
Going on a cruise might seem boring for the adventurous non-planning types but they’re a great way get to unwind and not deal with the planning and unfortunate events that come with spontaneity. Everything is taken care of and all you have to do is Eat, Sleep, Drink, Party and Repeat.
Cruises provide excellent value for your vacation dollar since the fares include almost everything you'll need for an amazing trip: meals, accommodations, day and evening entertainment and transport between destinations. We often see fares on mainstream cruise lines for under $100 per person, per night, which is surprisingly more affordable than you would spend on the property for a hotel, dinner, and a show.
On some lines, children even sail free or at discounted rates when sharing a cabin with two adults. Searching for luxury? Upscale lines are much more inclusive, with alcohol and soft drinks, gratuities, shore excursions, onboard spending credits, as well as flights bundled to the cuisine.
A Wine Tour
What's better than a glass of wine to help you unwind? Going on holiday on a wine rich region like France why not explore the myriad of wineries operating there? First, you'll have to search for the local wineries in that location. A lot of them have a long-standing tradition and history attached to their wine and the way they manufacture it. Wine tours might sound not so interesting at first, but when you hear the stories about how the wine is made and look at those beautiful rustic rows of grapes on the vineyard, you know that it’s the best vacation investment you have ever made.

Off-Grid
Are you annoyed by the noise of constant traffic? Is stress wearing on your health? If you receive another e-mail notification, do you feel like you're going to shout? If so, it may be time for you to go on holiday and not just any vacation, but a holiday that will let you separate from the chaos of urban and suburban lifestyle. An off the grid holiday is exactly what you require to get away from it all. Away from social media, from the interwebs, from the concrete jungle.
