Bajai Life Camp 17.1: Day 491
Hotel Castilla Vieja
Wednesday (Miercoles) October 10, 2018
Palencia, Spain
26.88% rollin
Palencia is one of these places that I wished I'd booked for longer. I could've stayed here all week, but it seems all the hotels are booked solid. Universe! I'm meant to visit Burgos; to explore the north of Spain. "Make a plan and stick with it." That's what I tell people. Yet sometimes I try to back out of the plans I make myself. Universe steps in and keeps me on track. Even when those plans turn out to be uncomfortable... like Savona... I still have to see them through.
Waiting for the train. Farewell Palencia, hasta tardes.
Last night I did work the abs before bed. Crunches and reverse crunches, but no planks. I'm envisioning myself as red-meatless although I ate beef last night. Since my decision is not political I can switch in and out. I can do the meatless/wheatless in the US, amidst familiar surroundings and resources and go with the flow elsewhere. I wouldn't want to give up tajine when I go back to Morocco.
Today we make that move to Burgos, just an hour north and east of here. It's overcast this morning. It looks just like someplace in the states, on the street. It's when you get to the plazas that the difference really hits.
I think this is the Plaza Mayor in Palencia
One set of pushups this morning. Bod is responding. The right heel is still tight, but it doesn't hurt right now.
Almost 500 days and I'm still not over the bar. This means I've yet to accomplish a muscle-up. I think this requires more dedicated and intense training. Something I haven't been able to accomplish on the road.
OH... the hotel in Burgos is quite a distance from the train station. It's closer to the bus station. A note for the future. A better note would be a way to get from the train station to the hotel. There are several bus routes in Burgos, however the web-apps have no information, so I had to research it myself. It was a challenge, but I think I found a workable route. It requires fifteen minutes of walking rather than an hour and a bus ride/tour. Better keep some change with me.
Despite the no smoking policy the cafe in the hotel smells like smoke. The cafe I go to for tea has a "no smoking" sign posted, yet there's always someone smoking inside... I think it's one of the owners.
If there's one message you get from these posts, it's my position on cigarette smoking. I have no problem with weed. I don't indulge regularly, but I have no problem with the smell. I find cigarette exhaust to be very harsh.
Getting Close
Now I'm thinking about all the stuff I don't have to take with me. It will lighten my load. I don't really need the plate. I don't need the bag from the Estacion program. I don't need the extra shirts and boxers I picked up on the road. My backpack will surely be checked in. It's probably over weight, so I expect a charge, but I can make it as light as possible. It helps not carrying all those rocks around. Ha ha.
The phones must be updated... ha ha.
This evening I must book Madrid. My final days in Spain, (this year.)
First Look at Burgos
Hello Burgos. I went right out and touristed around.
Showing up in a Spanish city during siesta is like showing up in America at dawn. But not really. There's stuff open at dawn. First task, find a place to eat. Proprietors have no idea; the first place I come to, I repeat again and again, if nothing goes massively wrong. This place looks good. The waiter is super helpful, talks super fast, in Spanish. I don't know what he's saying... but I got my order in. I can order tea quite well.
Love this door!!
I got out straight away and plotted the hood. The cafe gets passing grades and there are three markets close by and I have a fridge. Now I can get to work. This is a nice hotel. I'll get some pix. Also got the drawing practice in also. I found no place to work out yet. Puh!
I think this plaque has something to do with Columbus.
It was a late night. I just didn't feel sleepy until I sank into the tub. Then I found, It wasn't as late as I thought.
