My brakes were starting to smoke as I bounced down a steep and narrow rocky mountain road somewhere in the middle of nowhere. It was dark as the sun has been set for at least an hour and there was zero cell phone service and there might be a chance I was lost. My destination is a supposed free campsite I had found online which was rumored to be next to a waterfall. This is why we adventure. If true, it would be a welcome rest from days of heading west across the Great Plains in search of some unknown.
A sigh of relief came over me as I stepped out into the pitch-blackness to check my brakes. I heard the roar of rushing water surrounding me amongst the dark. My destination has been reached.
Im not even sure if this place was real because its one of those things that you could never imagine stumbling upon. My only regret was sharing it alone. I felt selfish in being the only one who could enjoy what I was seeing. It was the unexpectedness of it all that took my breath away.
The two days I spent there was a much needed rest from a series of long hauls. It was a mountainous oasis that reminded me of how far I had come and also of how much road was left to cover.
