This close up shows you how you can pay with your phone for rental scooters on offer by “Bird” scooters in San Diego and other California cities. They are motorized and causing controversy in California cities where they appear. Many people ride them when they do not have the skill and often are not wearing helmets.
Now I have found out that these scooters get charged each night by random people who sign up with Bird to do this task. Apparently it is a cutthroat business, but you can make good money doing it if you find enough scooters and have a good way to charge them. But you can also be robbed or lured into an unsafe place and get hurt at this job. One quote from the article I linked says, “Bring mace or a taser [when you are gathering scooters to charge] because there’s a lot of crazy people out there “
So now, the people riding these scooters can be hurt by them and the people charging them can be too. I look forward to a lot more bad news about this new form of eco-friendly transportation.
