THE DREAM AFTER THE DREAM
by William M. Peaster
It is the dream after the dream
where you jumped from atop the mountain;
the morning sun compromises your crawl
up the valley as each pebble beneath you
is signed wordless in blood. Though
as the dawn grows, so too do the pebbles,
which then become boulders, which become
whole mountains anew.
