This Lockheed C-141b Starlifter was stationed here at McChord AFB (now Joint Base Lewis McChord) before being retired from service. Tonight I was informed by my father-in-law that he worked on this very aircraft while stationed at McChord. He told me that this particular C-141 was manufactured in 1965.
I grew up just a few miles away from McChord, my father spent his last 7 years of his 20 years service at McChord. I always enjoyed watching C-141s flying over. Sometime in the late 90’s the C-141s were all retired and were replaced with at that time, the McDonell Douglas(now Boeing) C-17 Globemaster III
The C-141 served our Air Force well, and was often considered the backbone and workhorse of the U.S. Air Force. In this photo we just missed driving right under the belly of a C-17 about to land at McChord.
I hope you enjoy these photos, as I was able to enjoying seeing these magnificent aircraft.
