Just a little one for those double bass aficionados out there, I want to share this video I shot (along side the ace videographer Sian and producer/host Geoff) for Discover Double Bass, talking to the amazing world-renowned double bass player Larry Grenadier
Here he gives a fantastically relaxed and in-depth interview about his experiences rehearsing and performing with the Brad Mehldau Trio, Larry’s bass influences, and his experience preparing and making records including his latest solo album The Gleaners.
It was a real pleasure to head to London's famous Barbican Centre venue for the afternoon to set up a quick three camera interview, as well as undertaking lighting and general audio monitoring duties.
We got there and setup just before soundcheck - it was tight for time but we did it. We love a challenge.
(The video was entirely edited by Geoff/Sian so I can't take credit for that, but it was a fun shoot)
These kinds of sessions and interviews are pretty rare with Larry, so it was an extra privilege (and pressure) to shoot the video and helps things go smoothly.
He is a fascinating and warm hearted fellow.
One who I would like to meet again, and maybe watch play live at some point in the future :)
