Even though ac Wi-Fi only recently became the standard in most new devices, the next generation is already being worked on. This new standard will be called 802.11ax, and will be probably finalized around 2019. Even still, we have a pretty good idea of what the improvements will be, and ASUS actually even released an ax router based on the current specifications.
