I’ve always liked short stories. Short stories don’t mince words, and they don’t waste time.
There’s something poetic about laying out a rich story in a small format. Short stories demand more from readers. There is no prologue or background exposition. They jump right into the action, and you need to keep up, picking up the characters and the lingo and even the fundamental conflict as things happen. You need to figure out things the characters already know without any spoon-feeding.
Dust Brings Science Fiction Short Stories to Video
Short stories are less common these days as a form, except in science fiction. Sci-fi has always been a particularly good genre for short stories, and that is still true today. Until now, however, that was only true for the written word. Until the last few years, short films and video just didn’t have many outlets to gain traction – film festivals maybe?
But now we have YouTube, among other video platforms, and people are more accustomed than ever to short video. Most of those are bland and lame though! What we want is a video worth watching, with high production quality and a good story.

The Best Thing on YouTube Is Dust
How did you like it? What do you think? Pretty cool, right?
Dust collects some of the best sci-fi shorts from all over and licenses them to post on YouTube. You will get a link to the website for the film and its IMDB page. That way you can find out more about it and about who made it.
There are more than a few sci-fi shorts on the Dust channel, and another one of my favorites on Dust is a short called ‘Rise’ starring the late Anton Yelchin, the actor who played Chekov in the new Star Trek films before he passed. That’s the first short on the ‘Best of Dust’ playlist:
The sci-fi shorts on Dust are typically between 5 and 15 minutes long, with a few that range up to 30 minutes. Short stories often leave you with questions, or wanting more, but that’s by design. Short stories and short films are perfect for exploring potential ideas for longer works.
I hope you love these films as much as I do!
