That's right! Stop the presses! It's official. Nintendo just confirmed that the highly anticipated sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is in production! .. * breathe *
At Nintendo's E3 Direct, which was scheduled for earlier today, Nintendo delighted fans with a bunch of juicy upcoming releases. The jam-packed presentation saw the announcement of soon to be released fan favorites, such as Luigi's Mansion 3, Fire Emblem: 3 Houses, Pokemon Sword & Shield!, A new Animal Crossing, and new downloadable Super Smash Bros.: Ultimate Characters.
There was plenty to get excited about, such as A new Contra game with a re-release of all the old school Contra series. The Secret of Mana series got the same treatment.. but by far what got me, and probably the rest of Nintendo fanboys the most hyped was the announcement that Nintendo saved for last.
With less than two minutes to go in their E3 Direct today, Nintendo unveiled their big surprise. The director ends with saying, "We have plenty more games still in development for the Nintendo Switch which we haven't showed you today... Speaking of which, here's a little something I want to leave you with.." and then they cut to a trailer.
The 82 second clip shows Zelda and her Hylian companion, Link, wandering through some dark caves. The mood is very ominous and there a bunch of quick cuts to our heroes looking shocked. Followed by some horrible green and black smoke emitting from a seemingly reanimated Ganondorf corpse.. It ends with a wide shot across the open-world field of the Hyrule castle shaking and.. looking like its about to be raised from the ground..??
Either way, they didn't give us much to go by, but the confirmation of a sequel is more to keep fans chattering for a good while.
Personally, this is a blessing and a curse.. of course Im going to buy it.. but I'll admit I haven't yet beat the first game.. It gives me a reason to revisit it though, and therefore it should be fresh in my mind by the time they finish the development.. which will be a couple of years..
We do get a stunning looking remake of Zelda: Link's Awakening for the switch this year as well.. oh Nintendo! Just take my wallet now and be done with it!
Here's the reveal trailer for your convenience:
