Born in Zofingen, Switzerland on the 14th of April, 1935, Däniken dedicated most of his childhood and formative years studying at the reputable Collège St-Michel in Fribourg, Switzerland, where he immersed himself in ancient holy writings and unsolved archaeological puzzles. In no time, Erich von Däniken commenced the writing of topic-related articles and worked his way up to publishing his book; “Chariots of the Gods,” a local and international best seller.

His passion for positively affecting lives prompts him to share his knowledge and experiences with equally enthused individuals, via numerous educative lectures at educational institutions and public speaking platforms where he addresses a wide range of critical issues, sharing workable ideas and solutions to problems.
All through the course of his career, Erich von Däniken has published 40 books which have been translated into 32 distinct languages while also selling over 67 million copies worldwide. He has equally bridged the gap between the print and electronic media, having had his two bestselling books, “Chariots of the Gods” and “Mysteries of the Gods” adapted into documentary films.

Däniken’s voyage into television production was an interesting one. Sudwestrundfunk, a Baden-Baden-based television station once filmed a three-part documentary on Erich von Däniken’s works. In 1993, Erich von Däniken moderated a 25-part television series on SAT-I. Due to its recorded success, the series was broadcast twice a month. In 1996, Erich von Däniken signed on with ABC, the US television network where he helped produce a $1.2 million dollar documentary.
Subsequently, German station, RTL picked up the film for broadcast throughout Europe that same year. RTL recorded a whopping 4.57 million viewers, earning the record of being the show with the highest audience rating on every channel, pegging the majority of viewers – below 50 years of age.

The project’s success rubbed off of its rerun which was aired on May 1, 1997, attracting 3.17 million viewers. But this was not the end of it. In 1998, the world’s largest public broadcast outfit, ARD, produced a documentary about Erich von Däniken. In February, 2001, British television station Twenty-Twenty equally produced a biography about Däniken. This was first seen on Channel 4 and has since been rebroadcast on several stations and video channels all over the world.
US TV channel History equally began a groundbreaking series about Erich von Däniken’s hypotheses entitled “Ancient Aliens” in 2009. The series received the highest audience rating ever in the history of the channel. This success launched continued filming and by March, 2016, Ancient Aliens boasts a total of 120 shows running in many languages throughout the world.
Erich von Däniken has also been writing a regular column for Swiss newspaper; Blick am Abend since February, 2011.
