Several days ago, my friends who are Japanese food lovers told me that they were craving for Tonkatsu - the typical Japanese dish of pork coated in breadcrumbs and fried. I had Tonkatsu once in Peru, but it wasn’t good at all. I have never looked for it in Hanoi. I tried to find some japanese restaurant that served tonkatsu in Hanoi. Among a few restaurants that I found out, Daikon Food was really outstanding with a lot of reviews as a good place for having tonkatsu with the reasonable price.
In the mid of noon, I and my friends go quickly to Daikon Food to save their desire of Tonkatsu. The restaurant is placed in the first floor of Somerset Hotel in No.254D, Thuy Khue Street, nearby West Lake. We get inside the restaurant and feel quite surprised. It looks small but really tidy and cozy with the way of decorating.
There are too many choices in the menu, everythings looks so attractive and good price. It is really hard to pick up just one of them. After a while of discussing what we’re gonna eat, we decide to order different ones to be able to share with each other: Pork Tonkatsu, Curry Tonkatsu and Carry fried chicken.
This is my dish. Everything is aranged tidily in the “Bento box”. Rice with tonkatsu, salad, roll egg and fruit. Look so nice.
I have a compliment for this tonkatsu. I have never been Japan to try real Tonkatsu so I don’ know how its taste really is, but if comparing with Tonkatsu I had in Peru, this one is better. Look quite small but enough to make me full. The pork coated by the crispy cover made from breadcrumbs fried deeply. Dipping tonkatsu to the teriyaki sauce and feel the savory taste in mouth.
I feel really satisfied with my dish but the curry style even much more better. I try curry chicken and curry tonkatsu of my friends, the curry sauce is so tasty when eat with rice. I should have picked this one too. We have three people but order 4 dishes. I think we can finish even 5. So tasty.
Not like most of Japanese restaurants in Hanoi that is always expensive, Daikon Food serves good food but just charge reasonable price. We pay around 15$ for 4 dishes and 3 drinks. Not bad, right? My friends also say that they’re gonna come back here to eat more. So do I. And next time, it must be Curry chicken. :)
