Imagine that you are in a close relationship with a person. Every time you don't want to follow the will of this person, he or she will nag and pressure you. Hold that feeling inside of you for a while. One of the most unpleasant feelings, right?
Now imagine the above, except that when you clearly say 'no' the person will use violence to get you to do as he or she wants. This is done by the person grabbing you, hitting you, taking out a gun or maybe just verbally saying 'do it, otherwise I will lock you in a room or beat you.' Only after a few times, it's enough with a verbal suggestion, and you will obey. But it would still be a question of the threat of violence: you both know what happens if you wouldn't obey.
As the years go by, you are so used to it that you hardly think about it, but the feeling is still present at every moment, even if it's oh so small and buried under a pile of rationalizations. Such a relationship would understandably lead to mental health problems for many individuals.
It would be interesting with a survey.
How many times per day do people experience the described feeling every day?
How many minutes / hours per day?
And how many times does it spring from the organization we call the State?
