Friday prayer is one of the special prayers in Islam, all Muslims are enjoined to gather every Friday and observe the Friday service. The Holy Qur'an makes the attendance at the mosque for prayer compulsory when it says:
in chapter 62 verse 9. O you Who believe: when the call is proclaimed to prayer on Friday, hasten earnestly to the remembrance of God and leave off business. That is best for you if you know.
There are two calling of Adhan;
the first is called to hasten Muslim to the place of prayer and the second is said when the imam who leads prayer is ready to the sermon. (i.e Khutbah). This is around one o'clock in the afternoon.
The Khutbah (sermon) is delivered in two parts with a short pause in between. In the first part, the imam celebrates the praise of God and that of his Holy prophet Muhammad, then he thanks God for his blessings on mankind and asks Him to forgive us of our sins. He testifies that there's no God worthy to be worshipped except Allah and that Muhammad was and still His messenger.
In the second part, he addresses the congregation and discuses the lesson he wants to teach. The topic of the Khutbah should be the one relating to the welfare of the community, and should be delivered in the language that people understand.
After the Khutbah, the mission says, the iqamah before a prayer of two Rajah's is observed. In the prayer, the Imam recites suratul fatiah and another portion of the Quran aloud as he does in the morning and evening prayers. After the prayer, the congregation will disperse to the land continue their business. In accordance with the Quranic injunction;
Quran 62:10 which says: and when the prayer is finished, then you will disperse to the land and seek Allah is mercy that you may be successful.
The Friday prayer is very important to observe in congregation, it cannot be said singly like daily prayers. If one misses it he has to say the Zuhr instead.
In addition, when going to jumah service, he can have a ritual bath, cut the fingernails; cleanse teeth well and use sweet smelling perfume for men.
JUMMA MUBARAK!
May Allah accept our prayers as act of Ibadah, Ameen.
