We were lords by ourselves;
Owners of farmlands, many wives, children and cattle
Lovers of dignity, respect and palm wine.
Our women tied their wrappers with much pride;
Dangling the beads around their waists
carefully for the men to watch on.
Whilst the old sat to share the inspiring story of their youth;
The number of beasts slaughtered;
The number of wrestling won;
And the places they've conquered,
The young looked on in curiousity to start their adventures.
The beautiful memories of the black nation!
A newer generation has come now
And the African dream has changed.
Still in a positive direction,
And Africa is leaving its mark on history
We are growing
We are getting better by the day
We are raising leaders
Young children grown men
Who will do the continent great
Who will savour the privilege of being African;
The privilege of being named black
And who will live the consciousness of same
