It's rare, it's handmade and you can´t find it in New York, Tokio or Berlin. Snake River Brewing Co. from Jackson Hole, WY, makes the Snake River Vienna Style Lager, a beer which falls between pale amber and medium amber. It's history comes from ancient brewers in Europe. But it's a beer of the US of A, directly from the Jackson Hole, the meeting of the economic world leaders and the party city of the rich.
Snake River Brewing Co. here makes a remarkable version of a relatively rare style, with a wonderful nose, spectacular color and a splendid head. The beer is light amber with a slight haze and an impressive rocky head.
The aroma is wonderfully bready malt, sweet-smelling, without a trace of hop. On the palate, the beer is soft and round, medium to full-bodied with hops just barely balancing out the sweetness of the malt.
It dries up at the end for a clean finish. On the cover you can see the mountains from Jackson Hole, very impressive and romantic. The drink for this is a silkily seductive beer and a good example of the "Vienna Style" - a thing that do not exist in the real Vienna. But to drink it would be nice with roasted meats and barbecue.
The modest hop dosage is more assertive than one might expect, but perhaps that it just what this style needs to make it more welcome. The Snake River Vienna Style Lager was honored with the "Small Brewery of the Year" award and as a "Brewmaster of the Year".
