In this video, the Coffee Science and Education Centre delves into the world of espresso distribution and explores whether a special tool or technique is necessary. They conducted various tests using different distribution methods, such as palm tapping, stockfleth, OCD distribution tool, and no distribution at all. The results showed that while some methods took longer to extract the coffee and produced slightly weaker shots, overall, the difference in extraction time and consistency was minimal. The conclusion was that specific distribution techniques do not make as much of a difference as consistency and finding a method that works best for each person's workflow. The recommended process is to use a simple palm tapping technique, which is quick, hygienic, and doesn't require additional tools or cost.
