Two days ago, a friend and I decided to go on a hike on the top of the highest mountain of Portugal. The location is called Torre and sits 1993 meters above sea level. The number is easy for me to remember as it's the year that Jurassic Park came out.
I have probably blogged about this location a handful of times but it might be the first time you read about it.
As you can see in the first picture, the earth is definitely not flat
and, more importantly, if it is indeed round, it's probably a lot smaller than we think.

What follows is a picture of the same Cold War radar towers ( that have seen better days, like many buildings/structures in Portugal ) from a distance, taken near a small pond with cute white flowers and a bunch of mountain frogs.
Here's a close up. Try to find a frog...
Then there's me, with puffy eyes, selfie-ing, as well as my friend hiding from the camera.
I almost got him here, as shown in the picture below. He's preparing a timer(ed) photo of the two of us, that he hasn't sent to me yet. He seems to be intrigued by the bottom of my feet
And here's three more pics of some ponds/ tiny mountain lakes and the landscape, that was super diverse in its weather resistant vegetation...
...with beautiful, moss-covered, ancient volcanic rocks.
The weather was amazing, perfect temperature ( 10 degrees cooler than the 30 Celsius at the foot of the mountains ), some clouds, some wind, plenty of sun.
*We weren't necessarily there for the hiking but definitely for the fresh air, the company, the silence ( all you could hear were some flies, a bunch of frogs, the wind, our words and an occasional plane. And the latter might even have been the same one. It looked old and military ).
We were the only people hiking out there, in the two to three hours or so that we spent around the top of this mountain range.
It was only when we returned to the towers and the abandoned hotel, as shown below, that a bunch of tourists decided to head off into the direction that we came from.
Perfect timing!
Here's the long awaited picture of my hiking friend, being all ZEN and barefoot.
We took a couple of longish breaks and took off our shoes and socks to relax even more and feel the energy of the earth underneath us.
And this one is for you and all other people with a leg fetish.
The tanned legs are mine.
Just in case you wondered who spends more time outdoors ;<)
And here's two more pics of the beautiful rocks and one more of my point of view, when I look down. I took it because of the interesting pattern of the rocks, not to show my legs one more time.
Let me finish this account by telling you that we enjoyed an amazing pick nick, that I forgot to photograph, as I was enjoying it too much. It consisted of yummy quality cheese and raw ham, bought at one of the stalls in the indoor market/tourist shop located there.
We also ate two oranges and some bread that we had brought along and drank some way-too-expensive dark but not strong (5.6%) regional beer. As we had bought it up there, we paid €9.90 for 0.75 cl ( and that in a country where you can buy a good bottle of wine for half that price haha! ).
Anyhow, it was worth it ( valeu a pena), in this particular situation.
All in all, it was a day well spent and I would do it again, any time. This is probably one of my favorite spots out (t)here, in Portugal and it feels different every single time.

P.S. If you enjoyed this read and haven't already done so, I also shared about a previous hike with this same friend. A walk that took place in the waterfally area around Monte Frio (where I bought and sold my first and only house, so far), a mountain hamlet, located at 700 meters above sea level.
