Since Pirin is not so closely located to Sofia as Rila Mountains, I’ve been there way fewer times. Rila is like home, and in Pirin I feel more like a guest. I hope that this will change, and I’ll get to know this spectacular mountain range and start to feel there as being at home too :)
Pirin National Park is one of the three national parks in Bulgaria and part of the UNESCO Heritage List since 1983. Why?
Because of its exceptional beauty!
Limestone mountains, a lot of glacier lakes, gorgeous circuses, coniferous forests, waterfalls, rich flora and fauna, lots of endemic plants. It is also the home of the oldest bulgarian tree(1300 years old).
It is the second highest mountain range in Bulgaria with its Vihren peak(2914m).
I captured these shots while taking a quick hike from Vihren Hut to this lake and around it.
There are 17 lakes in this valley (Banderitsa) and this is the largest and the deepest one(12,2m).
It was like walking in green paradise :)
