I'd meant to get up early and spend the day at Sleeping Bear Dunes. Instead, I slept all day and came out to do a trail. Luckily up here, it's still light in summer til after 10pm. So let's go!
Of course, if you've been around my blog awhile, you know I have to get shots of the flowers!
Anyone know what this is? The bright orange was dotted all over. Very pretty!
If I remember correctly, this is spotted knapweed, which is an invasive species. It spreads as crazily as mint!
Okay, now we're finally going in. My camera doesn't pick up the exact lighting beneath the tree canopy. It was dark and mysterious and a LOT of fun to walk through.
Does anyone else think the top of this dead tree looks like a creature?
I love a trail with a view!
This looks like someone got stuck in the ground, and their legs are up in the air.
These trees stood out amongst all the dense foliage. The area, back in the late 1800s, was once used as pine plantations to power the steamers that came through on Lake Michigan. I doubt these were part of it, but I was reminded of history when I saw them!
And now we're headed back out to the parking lot. Thanks for hiking along with me!
