Uhh ohh gang. Looks like they are continuing their failed war on the innocent. Incarcerating people for conduct that doesn't happen to directly, murder, rape, assault, or otherwise steal from another human. Even more ducked up is that these arbitrary corrupt rule lovers dont even care about the perverse incentives and the actual consequences of interventions they used to have to pretend was in the public interest.
Today's drug war stories discusses a jail where 27% of the inamtes developed drug habit during incarceration. So these people's psychological health has likely been directly injured by entering jail, unless the the drug use has helped them cope with a world run amok. The point here though is there are people we send to cages and we cant even control the cages and make them conform in the cages.
Got me wondering why we don't just treat people with respect. The serenity prayer emphasizes the importance of free will and perceiving reality accurately. Gotta wonder why we don't respect people's dignity and autonomy. If people are not using drugs to enhance their experience but instead escape a shippy situation, then why in the heck is the solution anything other than help them improve their situation. Get them a private room and warm bed and 2-3 meals a day and some cable tv or better books then maybe they may not use.
Anti drug war advocate neurologist Carl Hart discusses how even crackheads can make rational decisions and delay gratification. Why don't we treat these automotons as rational actors instead of clay to be molded into more desirable clay when in reality it just hurts everyone but the people invested in these corrupt state interventions.
