Hey everyone :)
Last year our local Games Workshop store had an event where one should make a valentine's day themed miniature/diorama and send a picture to them or present in store. I wanted to participate but finished my model like a month later. So it just stood around and no one except friends and visitors ever saw it. Time to change that!
I was very motivated and had a first idea right away. Two of the newer tyranid rippers together might look like a heart. So maybe I could do something with them? After trying out something I ended up modelling a little beach with a rock. In my stuff-for-basing-box I also found a palm tree I made like ages ago (wire, some putty and an old artificial fern's leaves). I always hated this palm tree, as it never fit any jungle base... Now I'm glad that I never threw it away. (Because of motivation actually I started painting the rippers right away - that's why they are already painted. For valentine's day I chose some red and rose colors. I end up painting little hearts all over their skins.)
After the putty dried I removed the rippers and the palm tree in order to add sand to the beach and paint the whole thing. For the rock I used only a thin layer of GW's black shade. I also added some watereffect to the whole thing. After that I put the rippers and the palm tree back in place. Then I added some final sand and color to cover the transition (? sorry, not a native english speaker) between the rippers and the base. In the end I always felt like there is missing something. Idea: A sea star would fit. So I had to make one from green stuff... After two or three attempts I finally got a sea star that I liked.
And now thats the very final result:
Greetings,
Tami
