The question is not will GETTR Censor or Ban People. The Question is WHEN?
There is a hype about new social media platform GETTR. Everyone talking about it claims they pinky swear that they will not ban or censor people. And from all the hype generated these last few days, looks like people believe GETTR.
But there are several scenarios that can happen. And all lead to Banning and Taking Their accounts back. If there is an option for that to happen it will happen.
Maybe you will end up on the wrong side of the owners. Owned or operated by GETTR USA, Inc.
Maybe GETTR is really honest about its pinky swear, but "owned or operated by GETTR USA, Inc", maybe you will post something that it is not appreciated by the regulators. Faced with a threat of a lawsuit or just pressured to suppress some kind of content whos side do you think GETTR will pick?
Maybe the owner of servers GETTR is hosted on just decides to shut it down (remember AWS and Parler)
Maybe just Maybe GETTR USA, Inc. will use this hype to grow user base and sell the Inc. to the highest bidder. And then that new owner will take the account, followers and all the data from you. (what happened to Rumble?)
There is a lot of talk about Web 3 platforms, decentralization... and first thing you should do is check do you own your account. 99% of the times you don't. GETTR does not even make claims about decentralization, so you don't even have to check. You don't own your Account, GETTR does. You can check GETTR -- TERMS OF USE and GETTR PRIVACY POLICY to see when they will take "your" account back and how they will use data that you provided to them for free.
The bottom line is, Not Your Keys, Not Your Account. And even then i can't claim 100% that i will not be banned or censored.
Do i own my keys and account on Hive? Yes.
Can Peakd as a front end decide to censor me? Yes. But i can use Ecency or use open source hive blog code to spin my front end up with all my data and followers intact.
Can an API node decide to not show my account to front ends? Yes. But i can use 10s of other API nods or i can use my API node and no one can stop it from fetching data from Hive blockchain.
Can regulators decide to go after witness nods and ask AWS to not rent servers to them? Yes. But there are hundreds of witnesses in multiple countries in the world on all kind of different server providers. There are also witnesses that run nodes from home.
And with all that, can i claim it is 100% censorship resistant? No, but maybe 99%.
If you check my other content, you will see that i don't even post anything worth of censorship. But i do like to own my account and data. You should try it out, it is nice :)
