My parents were married for more than 30 years. They remained devoted to each other their entire marriage. They raised four kids.
We lost Mom back in 2015, and Dad passed away last year.
No one wanted to part with their wedding rings. Ultimately, we kept very few things from their home other than certain personal and meaningful items. Among those items were the rings, which were kept in this heart-shaped box that belonged to Mom.
Mom's ring is classic, and may be passed on to a brother's future bride if she chooses to keep it. Dad's ring is engraved with the words "Ewiglich Deins" -- which is German for "Eternally Yours" or "Yours Forever." It also includes their anniversary date.
My entire life, I never knew that Dad had had the ring engraved. It was a perfect choice -- they met while he was serving a mission for our church in Germany and my mother was taking a European tour with friends. I did not know about the words hidden on the inside of the band until after Dad passed away and we were dividing the precious items we loved. I was holding the band and happened to notice it, and as someone who studied German as well, I knew what it said and it made me cry.
They are together again, reunited in Paradise, and I miss them and love them still. I wish all marriages were as loving and happy as my parents' was.
