During the cold winter days, I like to remind myself of summer and walks in nature. One of the favorite places to visit is Titel Hill, with its beautiful lookout point. Titel Hill is located in the heart of Vojvodina, more precisely in southern Bačka, on the right bank of the Tisa River.
Titel Hill is the only elevation in the Backa plain and it is a very precious and unique loess plateau, formed by the deposition of fine loess dust. Scientists have studied it for a long time, but so far there is no consensus on when and how it originated.
The Hill is 18 kilometers long and about 128 meters high, and on its top, along the entire Hill, there are fertile fields sown with wheat and corn. From the top of Titel Hill in summer, endless fields of various colors can be seen. At the foot of the hill is the Tisa River.
In 2012, Titel Hill was declared a special nature reserve, as a habitat for rare plants and animals.
On the southern edge of Titel Hill is my hometown - Titel. Titel has about 7,000 inhabitants of different nationalities, who have lived in peace and harmony for hundreds of years.
At the top of the hill - a place called Kalvarija - there is a small chapel, a remnant of the old town of Titel, which testifies to an old legend called the Curse of Mary, but this will be the next topic for writing 🙂
Titel Hill is still a place for fun, play and relaxation. It breaks the monotony of the plain and takes you back to the past through the stories we heard growing up, and which I will soon introduce to you.
