This is my #wednesdaywalk initiated by #tattoojay.
I love to walk around derelict buildings. I don't mind if it's a disused factory or a castle. I just love their history. This time I decided to go on a short walk taking in the ruins of Errwood Hall in the Goyt Valley of Derbyshire, UK.
The hall was built by Samuel Grimshawe around the 1830's. It was demolished in 1934 in connection with the build of Fernilee reservoir close by.
After parking the car we strolled up the slight incline. It was quite damp which bought out all of the autumn colours. I love this time of year.
At the top of the incline we came to a sharp right and went through what looked like old gate posts. We followed the footpath up to the ruins.
Only some of the foundations and walls of the hall remain but still very interesting. It was quite atmospheric in the mist.
We carried further on until we came to the Grimshawe family graveyard. It's fenced off out of respect but you can still get quite close to it.
Unfortunately, it got quite cold and it started to rain. We had hoped we could visit the domed shrine but decided that would have to wait until our next visit. Would definitely go back again as there is still a lot of the estate to walk around.
Thank you for stopping by.
