. It has been a long time since I had a walk around the Central World shopping complex in Rachaprosong district in the center of Bangkok. This area is full of big office buildings and several luxurious shopping centers including five stars hotels and condominiums. What’s more this area is also famous for having important Hindu shrines within walking distance from each other.

This seems to be rather conflicting or contradictory as we would not expect the commercial and materialistic hub of money making to be side by side with spiritual symbols representing the unscientific and intangible aspects of emotional and often irrational human beings.
Take the skytrain to Chidlom station, then walk south towards Central World Mall. Walk over to the front entrance of the mall, the Hindu shrines are on your left, just in front of the Isetan shopping mall.
You could look on your right, the new iStore would be sparkling with its all transparent glass wall. The Gasorn shopping mall and other skyscrapers would be making their presence felt in this busy old district. The land where Central World stands nowadays useful to be a very big Palace with lots of mysterious happenings and ghost stories. Some people speculated that was probably why the Hindu shrines were installed in order to appease the local land-spirits.
There are two Hindu statues in front of Isetan shopping mall. The first one you would see is that of Phra Trimurti and the second one is that if Ganesha. There are several stalls selling flowers, incense, Thai fruits and sweets for paying respect to these famous Hindu gods. Local tradition recommends that everyone should pay respect to Ganesha first in all Hindu ceremonies.
Ganesha is the good humored and kind Hindu god whom people come to ask for blessings in fortune, success and especially in removing all difficulties and obstacles in life. During this post-pandemic lockdown, this area seems very pleasant and peaceful. Some ardent worshippers would come to pay their respect at least once a month. There are squares on the ground for keeping social distancing among worshippers.
Phra Trimurti is a very special Hindu god famous for granting blessings on people who want to be successful in love. Lots of film stars and social elites have been spotted to be paying their respect to Trimurti. They often attributed their marriage proposals as a result of their worshipping ceremonies. Lots of young people could be seen bringing nine red roses to offer Phra Trimurti while beseeching for his blessings.
เราไม่ได้ไปเดินแถวราชประสงค์มานานหลายปี เพราะว่าเราไม่ชอบไปห้างสรรพสินค้าที่มีคนหนาแน่น และมีการจราจรติดขัดมาก แต่พอมาช่วงคลายล็อกดาวน์เราก็ไปเดินดู บรรยากาศและสำรวจตลาดไปด้วย เราก็เดินไปเยื่ยมคารวะศาลของเทพเจ้าฮินดูที่หน้าห้างอิเซตัน ซึ่งอยู่ติดกับเซ็นทรัลเวิลด์ เราไปโดยรถไฟฟ้าสถานีชิดลม แล้วเดินต่ออีกห้านาทีก็ถึงลานหน้าห้าง แล้วเดินไปทางซ้าย เราก็จะเห็นว่ามีศาลเทพเจ้าขนาดใหญ่อยู่สององค์ องค์แรกคือ พระตรีมูรติ และองค์ที่สองคือ พระพิฆเนศ แถงนั้นจะมีร้านขายดอกไม้ธูปเทียน ผลไม้และของหวานสำหรับทำพิธีในการสักการะบูชาตามประเพณีของฮินดู
ตามธรรมเนียมแล้ว เราจะต้องไหว้พระพิฆเนศก่อน เพราะท่านเป็นเทพเจ้าแห่งการขจัดอุปสรรค และให้พรด้านความสำเร็จในกิจการต่างๆ คนที่ต้องการความก้าวหน้าในการงานและโชคลาภเงินทอง ก็จะกราบขอพรพระพิฆเนศ ส่วนคนหนุ่มสาวที่ต้องการมีความรัก อยากมีคนมาขอแต่งงานแบะมีชีวิตความรักที่สมหวัง ก็จะนำดอกกุหลาบสีแดงเก้าดอกมาถวายพระตรีมูรติ วันที่เราไปเยี่ยมสักการะที่นั่น บรรยากาศดีมาก เงียบสงบและมีคนไปกราบน้อยมาก เราเห็นความย้อนแย้งระหว่างความเจริญทางวัตถุ ที่รายล้อมศาลเทพเจ้าของฮินดู นั่นแสดงว่าความเจริญรุ่งเรืองทางวัตถุ ไม่ได้ช่วยให้คนมีความสุขใจสมหวังมากขึ้นเลย คนก็ยังมีปัญหาชีวิตที่แก้ไม่ตก จนต้องมาพึ่งเทพเจ้าของทางฮินดู เพื่อความสบายใจและมีกำลังใจในการต่อสู้ชีวิตต่อไป

Phra Trimurti has three faces as he is a combination of three Hindu deities: Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. It’s quite interesting that he is guarded by four dogs and a cow. When making offerings of food to Trimurti, only fruits and sweets are allowed as these Indian gods are vegan!
เราอยู่เดินเล่นจนเย็นและอากาศเปลี่ยนแปลงไป จนกระทั่งมีพายุฝนมา ทำให้เราต้องรีบเดินกลับไปที่ทางเข้าห้างเกสร เพื่อเดินต่อไปตามสกายวอลค นับว่าเป็นการเดินเล่นที่ย่านราชประสงค์ที่สงบและร่มรื่นใจมาก
I spent several hours walking along this area; the sky switched from bright blue sky to grey stormy sky in a flash. Perhaps the gods were telling me to get back before the rush hour traffic. My walk in Rachaprasong was very pleasant and calming without any unseemly vibrations. These Hindu statues did have very kind and gentle vibes.
