2022 started with hope. Hope that, after a couple goofy years, 2022 was going to be a return to something more normal, and a couple years worth of pent up adventures would hopefully happen. Walks around town were nice, especially when there were neat interactive light displays to enjoy, but a change of scenery would be nice too.
Live Music
Some of our first out of town walks started with concerts. This one maybe 45 minutes from home, but a lifetime away after live music died for a spell.
Charity Walks
A couple years of charity work and virtual events had finally become in-person events again. It was great to see people escape their homes and gather for good community causes. Steps raising money for local charitable organizations like the hospice saw a triumphant return.
Family Outings
Family daytrips were stepped up a notch as some of the popular attractions in the region reopened for thrill seekers. I thought I would be the smartest dad alive by taking the family to Canada's Wonderland a couple days before the school year ended. Turns out every other dad was as brilliant as I and the place was packed seemingly beyond capacity. It took me a while to get a shot of one of the metallic monstrosities without 400 people in the way but another 15k steps
Beer!
I should patent "Of course there was beer!" for how many times I use that statement in beer blogs on Hive. This epic walk saw me touring a hops farm in the region. Wonderful to get out on the farm, shoot some stock hops images as a #beerologist would, and enjoy a couple fresh pints on the way.
Jet Setting
Vacation season came on in a big way and I set and equalled personal best steps numbers on these walks. Roaming around Amsterdam for the first time in maybe 6 years certainly was nice. Just a quick trip but it felt familiar and I know I will be back.
Malta
One crown jewel collection of walks was made in Malta. I haven't visited since my honeymoon, so many moons ago. Some had changed since then while other things remained in the same state it has for hundreds of years. July may not be the best time to visit this mystical and historic place because of the heat and 90-day seasonal drought, but it was an enlightening adventure from beginning to end.
Back Home
At home, the garden walks were many as the beginning of the growing season showed the green so missed during the winter.
Business was exploding and so were the blooms at some of our clients. Such a lovely town, you sometimes take it for granted while others would wonder why you would ever leave.
GOLF!
In the dead of winter, thinking about the hundreds of thousands of steps spent on the golf course in 2022 warms me for this coming summer. How do you mix business with pleasure with physical activity and nature and beer? I can't think of a better way in the summer I think we are a little fortunate to get to do this.
More Travel!
@Tattoodjay and I had the chance to rack up some steps in the city of sin! More record-breaking step counts in LAs Vegas to countless casinos and endless neon.
Nights in Toronto
Meeting with old friends and catching live baseball with a crowd again was special too. I don't miss living in the big city but I sure do enjoy visiting from time to time.
The Wilderness
One thing there was no shortage of in the couple years past was camping. We live in farm land but the wilderness where it is fantastic to camp is not far. You can't get tired of this and we had plenty of steps along forest paths.
Kind of fitting that the summer season transitioned gracefully in to autumn with one last camping trip that involved music. It is a gift to be able to spend time at a cottage. Even more so when you are invited each year to perform at an intimate music festival at that cottage with a couple hundred friends. My phone doesn't count swimming strokes but there were plenty of walks up and down these stairs.
Home Again
The year ended in some ways like the one before, except with so much more gratitude for being able to see more of the world. Whether your steps take you to exotic places, serene views, excitement or wonder, it is always great to settle in for the end of the year. You can find as much joy in an hour away in the dog park as often as you like.
