During the National Election, New Zealand voted on two issues via referendum: The first on Euthanasia was a YES, the second to legalise Cannabis was a NO.
The New Zealand Prime Minister revealed that she voted YES to legalise cannabis to reduce the number of people in jail for small offences. The preliminary results have 53.1% of the vote a NO which will mean that effectively, the people have spoken, and the government would be hard-pressed to legislate against the referendum results.
Why the NO vote?
Proponents for the YES vote feel that the public was inundated with significant mis-information and the experts in pushing mis-information are so skilled across the globe now that the YES campaign struggled in it's effectiveness. A lot of money was thrown at the NO campaign from various areas, particularly from overseas countries, to fund the NO campaign and spread the mis-information widely and effectively.
Another lost opportunity for a country to reduce the overheads of prosecuting a low-level drug! Another lost opportunity for big Cannabis companies and stocks as well!
