If the authors of the Federalist Papers could see America today, what do you think that they would say about the balance of power between national and local entities?
In the U.S. we have separation of powers to prevent one branch of the government from becoming tyrannical and federalism to prevent the national government from being overbearing. What other anti centralization and corruption measures could be put in place?
One effect of federalism is laws and policies being specific to certain areas of the country. What level of government should policy decisions be made at to have the resulting laws be representative of those that it is governing? National? State? County? City?
