We all know Mrs Godfrey comes to class for dictation every Friday, seeing her entering the class we were set already, it's time to sharpen our skills. She wrote the subject and topic on the board and the next thing heard were words repeated three different times, a total number of sixty, twenty words.

Desmond happens to be the school prefect and also in my class, he loves novels a lot, he also tops the class in all science subject, no one takes that from him or dare to compete, am talking of a class of fifty students.

As its customary, at the end of the dictation each student is to pass his note to the next for marking, the highest score will be announced by the marker, expectations were high, though we all know who will top the list, them came the name, my prefect wasn't there, in a curious manner Mrs Godfrey asked what score Desmond has, the answer was 2/20.

She demanded to have the note and to her amusing surprise she has been writing in another country's language : The American English.

We must all know that it was the British explorers who brought it to the New World 400 years ago, this same explorers in a bid to have independence, loathe everything British up to the Tea Party incidence. So they engineered there own English to suit there taste, what we have now is a confusing English language, even the dictionary get confused too atimes.
