â OffChain Luxembourg Weekly Spotlight: meet Sonia! đ§Ą
- Could you share a bit about your background and current focus?
I am a qualified lawyer and have practiced corporate and tax law for 15 years in various jurisdictions. In fact, since I left my home country (France), my path led me to Luxembourg after a couple of stops (and many adventures) in Malta and the Channel Islands where I got the chance to provide tax advice to a wide range of clients and industries from the maritime company to the crypto-assets exchange platform.
Having had settled in Luxembourg I was looking forward to meeting like-minded forward-thinking people and bring my experience of crypto-assets primarily gained in Malta, from a regulatory and tax perspective. Malta having implemented a legal framework prior to the publication of MICAR, I had the opportunity to assist with tax analyses of many whitepapers VASP licence application.
Now that I am getting acquainted with Luxembourgâs financial services industry, I am excited not only witness but also actively participate in the implementation of MICAR, taking into account the specificities of Luxembourg financial services environment and stakeholders.
- What inspired you to join OffChain, and what do you value most about it?
I value the friendly and mentally stimulating community that Offchain is building.
The variety of Offchain membersâ backgrounds, skills and expertise is a perfect blockchain technology incubator. Indeed, growing ideas through collaboration is at the core of Offchainâs strategy and I do believe that many more forward-thinking blockchain projects will come to life in the near future, starting with the widespread use of the already launched OffChain Luxembourg Token (OCLT).
- Beyond blockchain, what personal passion or pursuit fuels your creativity?
Although I am a tax lawyer, I am also an artist at heart. I do believe that having an aesthetic sense is a necessary basis to build great and timeless objects, of any kind. I believe that bringing beauty into this world is how great civilisations have developed and left a lasting footprint on Earth. Far be it from me to step on Marie-Claude Pietragallaâs toes, bit I have danced my whole life. Dancing is freeing and musicality perception is a fun game to play. This helps me thinking outside the box at home and at work.
- Where do you see OffChain heading in the future, and what excites you most?
I believe OffChain will thrive as the main channel that direct information and knowledge to the general public and businesses.
Having already started assisting local business implementing crypto-payments, this is only the beginning of the path towards democratisation of the actual use of crypto-assets. In the future I see OffChain being at the forefront of a widened use of the blockchain technology in Luxembourg. I am looking forward to all opportunities that lie ahead and making them happen.
