It's been ten years since I was in Prague taking summer classes at FAMU (a Czech film & performing arts school). I saw a lot of amazing things that summer, but the diving pig installation we found will always stick out as especially strange and unexpected.
My friend, Billy, of course had to take this art installation up on it's offer and try to catch the pig.
It never moved, but it did provide a fun moment for us and some people passing by.
I'm a big fan of street art and installations, and ones like this that throw a bit of the surreal into everyday life are my favorite.
The combination of a rather normal thing (diving board), in not a normal place (the street), combined with the very not normal user of the board (the pig) work perfectly together.
The attention to detail to make the pig so realistic, create first a sense of confusion and unease in the viewer, and then, like Billy, you feel empathy for the pig and be inspired to participate.
I wish every city had art pieces like this that give viewers such a strange and interactive experience.
We need more things that inspire people to stop as they go through their daily lives and enjoy a bit of weirdness. We'd all be happier, and more engaged if we could have moments like these everyday.
Have you run into or created something strange lately? Make a post about it and use the #weirdwednesday tag to join in the weirder side of steemit.
