Flux-cored welding is a process that is quite similar to GMAW (MIG welding), being that it uses a continuously fed wire from a spool you install in your welding machine, this is normally called the electrode. The difference to GMAW is your Flux-core wire is tubular with a hollow core which is filled with flux, this flux when heated in process of welding generates the required shielding gas to shield your molten weld puddle from the air thus giving you a good quality solid weld. This welding process produces a thin layer on top of your weld which is commonly referred to as slag which is easily removed with a wire brush or chipping hammer once your weld has cooled down.
