Tuesday's Prompt: Bushwhacked
Belvin stood behind the Rhododendron bush in the alley, bending over to look at a bug in the crushed gravel of the roadway. It was a Ladybird beetle, he was sure. Then again, it had no spots. He bent over further, to take a closer look. “What ARE you, little bug?"
The small, six-legger did not answer back.
“Hmm...”
THWAAACK!
”Yeee-OUOOOCH!”
Something hit him hard on the bum from behind. It felt like a VOLKSWAGEN beetle had just run him over. He picked himself up from the gravel beyond, and wandered around to the far side of the bush, rubbing his backside as he went. Wouldn't you know it, his friend Morton Stanley III was standing on the far side of the alley in his tennis sweater, swinging his racket at the air above his head like he was making a volley at the net.
“Did you just smack me, through the bush, Morton?” Belvin massaged his sore behind, hoping the sting would soon subside.
“Who, Mwaaah,” was all he got in response.
Belvin was livid. He'd not been bushwhacked like this in all his years, and didn't know WHAT to make of it. Then again, always the pragmatist, he muttered to himself...“well, at least it wasn't a ROSE bush.”
