On my latest trip to Iceland, we were fortunate enough to go on a whale watching tour.
This was something I had never done before and as a result was something that was for me one of the highlights of a week long trip.
We went on a tour with a zodiac boat. The reason why we chose this, was simple: These boats compared to the bigger boats that do tours in Iceland are much faster, something I thought may be useful when wanting to get close to the animals.
And this tour did not disappoint.
The whales were feeding, This means they will dive for about 5 minutes, then come up and take a few breaths before diving again.
Normally you just see them exhaling and their fountains of water and air, but on their last breath they expose their fins, when they dive deep.
The boats got really close to the animals, so were able to see them up close.
If you ever have the chance to see such a thing, I can only recommend it. It was truly something I won't forget for quite some time.
