Price Discovery - the Market Decides
For "The Market" to make a proper decision about price, they need complete information - this is fundamental to maintaining the integrity of our economic system. So, in the case of WhaleShares, what do people need to know?
1) Everything will fluctuate ..
When different Whales get involved the impact of a 1% - 100% upvote will be different for each, also the price of Bitshares will change (up uP UP!) ..
2) The amount you pay for your WhaleShares must be 'less' than what you receive when using them.
Yes, that's obvious, but not always easy to determine if you have achieved this. Keep in mind that most people using WhaleShares right now have received them directly at no cost, for winning contests etc., so they are of course entirely profitable when using them - some of those folks have taken the freely gained shares and decided instead to trade them on Bitshares.
Heads Up!
So, this is where the current issue is - the people selling their shares on Bitshares are seeking to make more from them than they would if they used them to gain a Whale upvote for their posts - so for certain, as you can see by the "SELL ORDERS" depicted above, they are being sold too high. Also we must keep in mind that the total post reward is divided between curators and the author, so what you 'see' is not what you get.
At current Bitshares price (0.31) buying 100 WhaleShares at 1.9 would mean that a 100% WhaleShare Upvote would cost you $ 58.90 .. currently the average 100% upvote is substantially less than that.
It seems that the most substantial buy order is currently bid at 0.3 Bitshares .. this would mean that a 100% upvote would cost $ 9.00 .. currently the average 100% upvote is substantially more than that.
We would love to see some discussion on this, but I think a fair price for a 100% upvote today would be approximately $ 10.00 US.
