The Octomore “OBA CONCEPT” (Octomore Black Art), was a limited distillery release of only 3,000 X 500ML bottles. Only available for pre order at the Bruichladdich online shop early 2017.
The story begins at Feis Ile 2016, Adam Hannett's fist masterclass as head distiller. There was a deal of expectation and Adam had indeed something special to share. It was Octomore; but not as you know it.
The Octomore proposition had always been straightforward – mind and palate bending levels of peat, with the finesse and elegance of traditional Bruichladdich, bottled mostly at five years old. Sonnets in peat and barley.
But this Octomore was different. There was a lot more going on – layers of complex flavour that evolved over time, an elusive, shape-shifting spirit that refused to be tied down. What alchemy was this?
Now Bruichladdich present Adam's Octomore “OBA Concept”, a limited distillery release of only 3,000 x 500ml bottles. Rare indeed, and Adam is giving no secrets away, no clues, no workings out – the drinker will be the judge.
The Octomore OBA Concept is a vatting of 10 casks, 4 vintages, 1 barley type and 6 cask types.
TASTING NOTES by Bruichladdich
Nose
The dark dried fruit and bitter chocolate combination on the nose is followed by an explosion on the palate.
Palate
Dry peat smoke, spicy ginger, liquorice, then tea leaves and moist tobacco. Apricot and sea salt wrapped in a blanket of salty, smoky dried fruit.
Finish
The finish is desperately long, the lingering flavours will twist and turn as they compete for the final word from this outrageous dram.
Mood
This whisky has deep, dark depths to discover. The complexity holds everything together, tightly bound and secret. A combination of the rarest spirit and casks we have.
