As I sit in my hotel room in Buenos Aires, exhausted from the past few weeks working on the ships and going through the few thousand of photographs I have from all various days and excursions. I think about watching and attempting to photograph these incredible birds of the Drake.
This is a wandering albatross - a juvenile in fact. These animals are huge with a 3.5m | 10ft wing span and weighing roughly about 12kgs. They can travel 1,000's of km in day using the wind to glide with grace in search of food. How do they find food over such great distances? They have an acute sense of smell - hence why the circle the ship for only a few minutes, as they can usually smell food.
