The Return Of The Sun Festival Is Going To Be Lit!
Hello Steemian friends! Today is day 7 of 2020. I live in Igloolik, Nunavut, Canada up in the arctic circle which means since mid-November the sun set and hasn't risen since. It will return in 7 days for a brief hello where it will barely come above the horizon. While I haven't been affected by any seasonal depression I am eagerly awaiting the return of the sun. Pitch darkness from 3 pm to 10 am is weird. The window of time in-between 10 am and 3 pm is a dull dusky blue which is the small window I have to take my dog for a run. I'm getting an LED collar so we can go out when it's dark. But the main concern is actually running into a polar bear that we can't see. White on white is hard as heck to spot.

Temperatures here match the dark too, with average highs of -30 Celcius. Most days, like yesterday, have a wicked wind coming out of the northwest that can chill the air all the way down into the -50's. You may think "Oh I could never do that." But you would be wrong. LEt's be honest, nobody is going out in this weather for any more than the absolute necessities. The rest of the time you're toasty warm inside your house.

This last photo is from one of the last days the sun was above the horizon. I used my finger to block out the sun itself for the photo. This was taken at noon. Hmm, you know taking a photo a day at noon once the sun comes back would be a really cool project to track the rise and fall of the sun in our orbit. I might have to look into doing that.
