This is my submission for 's #wiw contest.
This week’s White Is White theme is flowers.
Bunchberry
An abundant spread of bunchberries grow wild in the woodlands near my house and make a lovely groundcover. The cheery four white petals with bright green leaves appear in June and light up the forest floor.
By July and August the white bunchberry flower transforms to a cluster of red berries. They are loaded with pectin and have strong antiseptic properties.
The colourful red berries can be eaten but if consumed before ripening can cause stomach cramps. I have never eaten any of these type of berries for my father always told me they were snake berries and poisonous. I think he told me, so, as a child, I wouldn’t be eating different berries I found in the woods.
I haven’t got a photo of the red berries but they can be seen at this source Bunchberries-edible wild flowers.
