Step 2. The next stage is to decide which cutter to use in order to form the profile. For this job i am using two cutters and a saw bench. I prefer to use a router table over a spindle moulder.
Step 3. When i use multiple cutters to form a profile i need to think about the process very carefully. In some instances you could cause yourself many problems by not planning properly.
Step 4. Now that a process has been decided i set up the router table and make my first cut. I always like to use the sample to set up if possible.
A step by step guide.
Hi fellow wood enthusiasts. I have been asked to produce 50 ft of custom skirting board for a client.
The client's house is dated around 1920 and they have just extended the kitchen. They want to keep the original detail, which is very commendable as these thing get lost otherwise, and are unable to get it ' off the shelf ' anywhere.
Here is the sample they provided.
I have always done this sort of work as most places will just match up to their nearest cutters.
I do not compromise and always reproduce exactly.
So i will run you through the process i use.
Step 1. First of all you will need to get the timber. In this case it is unsorted redwood (good quality pine) which i bought from a local timber yard already planed up.
If it was in oak or any other specialist hardwood i would machine it myself to ensure the correct dimensions and quality.
