Well gave me a chunk of ironwood so I could build him a guitar slide. This is the prototype to see just how difficult its going to be to combine the ironwood and bone. Earlier I posted the wood and bone bonded together but the temps around these parts have not risen above zero in a while so its not easy to work in the shop. But slowly I am getting there. The cold is hell on the lighting also. Flouresent lights don't come on in sub zero temps. But once I got 'em on I left them on and as it rises above zero they get brighter. So here is the first stage of sanding. Started with 40 grit on the belt sander, 60 by hand, then 120, 220, 320,400, 600, then a run on the buffing wheel with some green rouge.
The color is awesome but without good light I can't see the sanding marks the rouge is hanging out in.
The cracks in the wood will actually be good for the slide as it will add a little grit to the sound
So tomorrow I will find some 800 and 1000 grit sandpaper, get rid of all the scratches and buff it out with the green rouge then jewellers rouge and then top it of with some carnuba paste wax........all in all I think with the better supply of bone, a shop heater and my parts and supplies readily available I think skycrane will be happy with the one I make him....
