I found some hidden gems on special at a local yard. These 4/4 birdseye maple planks were a little rough, but I can mill some nice stock for the frame of a shoji screen.
Looks pretty good once you plane off the sawmarks.
Here is a closeup of the grain.
This saw is not ideal for ripping, but it is what I have.
I got eight 2 inch wide pieces out of those two boards.
I planed them square and straight at 5/8 x 1 1/2.
Finally I scraped them smooth.
Next time I will start to cut the joinery to assemble the frame.
